Egyptian Christian convert from Islam killed by his own family
An Egyptian Muslim man, named Hussein Mohammed, converted to Christ, got baptized, and took the name of George.
After posting several photos on Facebook, including one of his cross tattoo on his wrist — a practice pursued by Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Christians, his family had him killed on Sunday, reports International Christian Concern.
In Egypt, Muslims who convert to Christianity, are viewed as apostates which makes them vulnerable to being a victim of an honor killing.
Turkey launches military attack on Northeastern Syria
In the wake of President Trump’s Sunday announcement to pull U.S. troops out of northeastern Syria along Turkey’s border, Turkish President Recep Erdogan launched a long-expected offensive into northeastern Syria yesterday in what initially appeared to be a limited operation targeting Syrian Kurdish fighters who have played a central role in the U.S.-led battle against ISIS, reports MSN.com.
Syria’s Kurds accused the U.S. of turning its back on its allies.
Joe Biden says Trump should be impeached
Despite his own crooked record, former Vice President Joe Biden directly called for President Donald Trump’s impeachment for the first time on Wednesday.
BIDEN: “Donald Trump has violated his oath of office, betrayed this nation, and committed impeachable acts. To preserve our Constitution, our democracy, our basic integrity, he should be impeached.”
Hillary Clinton about Trump: “I can beat him again”
Judy Woodruff, co-host of PBS’ NewsHour, interviewed the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea about the book they co-wrote called “The Book of Gutsy Women.” In the course of the interview, Hillary joked about a possible re-match in 2020 with Donald Trump.
JUDY WOODRUFF: “President Trump continues to come after you in his speeches, in his tweets. You have been tough on him as well. I think you called him recently a corrupt human tornado.”
HILLARY CLINTON: “Yes.”
WOODRUFF: “Well, he’s come back at you several times. In fact, he tweeted just this morning. And I’m going to quote. He said: “I think that Crooked Hillary Clinton should try to enter the race to try and steal it away from uber-left Elizabeth Warren. Only one condition: The Crooked One must explain all of her high crimes and misdemeanors, including how and why she deleted 33,000 e-mails.”
CLINTON: “It truly is remarkable how obsessed he remains with me. But this latest tweet is so typical of him. Nothing has been more examined and looked at than my e-mails. We all know that. So he’s either lying or delusional, or both. There was no subpoena, as he says in a tweet this morning. So maybe there does need to be a rematch. Obviously, I can beat him again.”
Clinton bested Trump in the popular vote, but fell short in the Electoral College.
Pacific Gas & Electric Co. cuts electricity to million to prevent fires
More than a million people in California were without electricity yesterday as the state’s largest utility pulled the plug to prevent a repeat of the past two years when windblown power lines sparked deadly wildfires that destroyed thousands of homes, reports the Associated Press.
The unpopular move that disrupted daily life — prompted by forecasts calling for dry, gusty weather — came after catastrophic fires sent Pacific Gas & Electric Co. into bankruptcy and forced it to take more aggressive steps to prevent blazes.
Centers for Disease Control: Sexually Transmitted Diseases way up
According to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cases of three common sexually transmitted diseases in the U.S. reached a record level in 2018, reports USNews.com.
Gonorrhea and cases of primary and secondary syphilis both reached their highest levels since 1991 last year. The country’s 115,045 syphilis cases included more than 35,000 cases of primary and secondary syphilis, marking a 15% rate uptick from 2017.
Meanwhile, there were more than 583,000 cases of gonorrhea, a rate increase of 5% from 2017, and the rate of reported chlamydia cases rose 3% to total more than 1.7 million in 2018 – nearly two-thirds of which were among people 15 to 24 years old, the report shows.
Men who engage in unnatural relations with other men saw the highest share of primary and secondary syphilis cases in 2018.
The recipe for health is found in abiding by God’s design of abstinence before marriage and faithfulness within heterosexual marriage.
1 Corinthians 6:19 says, “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.”
In-N-Out Burger adds 2 more Scriptures on packaging
And finally, In-N-Out Burger owner Lynsi Snyder, age 37, said that she has expanded a tradition started decades ago when then-company president Rich Snyder printed Bible references on packaging.
Snyder told the Christian Post, “It was my Uncle Rich who put the Bible verses on the cups and wrappers in the early ‘90s, just before he passed away. He had just accepted the Lord and wanted to put that little touch of his faith on our brand.”
The verses are discreet – on the bottom of a cup, for example. The family-owned company has used well-known Bible references like John 3:16, but also less-popular ones like Nahum 1:7 (“the Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.”).
Snyder said in recent years she has added Proverbs 24:16 (“for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes”) and Luke 6:35 (“but love your enemies, do good to them”).
