Man Who Fatally Shot Five People in Washington State Arrested

The lone suspect in the fatal shooting of five people in a Washington state mall professes Muslim leanings. Police arrested twenty-year-old Arcan Cetin in Oak Harbor, Washington on Saturday night after a 24-hour manhunt, reports CNN. He is charged with five counts of first-degree murder. Four women and one man died in the shooting Friday night at the Cascade Mall in Burlington, just north of Seattle.

Social media visitors to Cetin’s Tumblr page would find an encouragement to chant “Subhan Allah,” which is translated, “glory to Allah.”

Washington Governor Jay Inslee spoke to the press.

“All of our hearts are in Burlington tonight. I know that there are seven million pairs of arms that would want to embrace the families in their losses. The state of Washington is with this community and will be in the days to come.”

On Sept. 17th, a 20-year-old Muslim man stabbed 10 people at a Minnesota mall before being shot and killed by an off-duty police officer.

Chinese Government Drafts New Restrictions on Religious Activity

The Chinese Communist government has drafted new restrictions in an effort to stunt the growth and influence of Christianity, reports the Gospel Herald. By 2030, China’s total Christian population is predicted to exceed 247 million, placing it above Mexico, Brazil, and the United States.

China Aid, a Christian persecution watchdog group, says the new restrictions will prohibit preaching, organizing citizens to attend religious conferences, or providing religious services through the internet.

Matthew 5:10 says, “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,  for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Two Sudanese Pastors Face Death Penalty for Helping Man Injured in Demonstration

Two Sudanese Christian pastors face the death penalty for helping provide $5,000 of financial aid for the medical treatment of Ali Omer, a young man from Darfur, who was injured in a 2013 demonstration.

The World View spoke with Todd Nettleton of Voice of the Martyrs about their trial.

“The case against Rev. Hassan Abduraheem and Rev. Kuwa Shamal as well as two other men — a Czech aid worker and another Sudanese man – is built around a case where they were providing help to a man who had been injured in a demonstration, to provide for his medical care. Now what the Sudanese government says is you were helping the rebels in south Sudan, you are working against the interests of the state of Sudan, therefore the charges against them are basically espionage charges and unfortunately that could carry the death penalty.”

The Sudanese law says that a person must be charged within the first 45 days of arrest or be released. These men were held for seven months before charges were announced and before they were allowed to make an appearance in court.

Obama’s Education Secretary Says Homeschool Students Lack Options That Are Good for All Kids

President Obama’s Education Secretary, John B. King Jr., spoke on home education last week, airing his concerns that homeschooled students are not “getting the range of options that are good for all kids.” He acknowledged that SOME homeschooled children are doing “incredibly well,” but he said they miss out on building relationships with peers and teachers, according to a report from Politico.

Ted Cruz Endorses Trump on Facebook

Former Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz made it official last Friday. After refusing to endorse Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, Cruz finally endorsed the presidential nominee in a Facebook post, saying, “First, last year, I promised to support the Republican nominee. And I intend to keep my word. Second, even though I have had areas of significant disagreement with our nominee, by any measure, Hillary Clinton is wholly unacceptable.”

Cruz cited six issues on which he has common ground with Trump: the Supreme Court, ObamaCare, energy, immigration, national security, and internet freedom.

The long-anticipated debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton takes place tonight from 9:00-10:30 pm eastern. Hosted by NBC’s Lester Holt, the debate, which will take place at Hofstra University in Hempstead, Long Island, is expected to draw an audience of 100 million people.

Trump Releases List of Potential Supreme Court Judges

After consulting with conservative, pro-life groups like the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation, Trump released a second list of 21 potential Supreme Court judges on Friday, from whom he will definitively pick if elected President.

By contrast, Hillary Clinton has received Planned Parenthood’s endorsement and promises to nominate U.S. Supreme Court judges who would uphold Roe v. Wade.

Advice Columnist Says Husband Who Opposed Abortion Couldn’t Possibly Be a Good Partner

An advice columnist offered a married mother of two children some disturbing advice. The husband, who did not want her to abort their third child, threatened divorce, perhaps as a wake-up call. Now that their daughter is two and the family of five is intact, the advice seeker confessed that she resents her husband and wished she had murdered her daughter by abortion. Mallory Ortberg, the advice columnist at Slate, described the husband’s behavior as “unconscionable, manipulative, and selfish, and I don’t think he could possibly be a good partner for you.”  Nevermind that Ortberg thinks abortion was the higher good.

Trump Has Several States He Must Win to Be Elected

The Weekly Standard contends that Donald Trump has several must-win states. In addition to the 23 states that Mitt Romney won by at least seven percentage points, Trump has to declare victory in Ohio, Florida, and North Carolina. (Polling finds that Trump narrowly overtook Clinton in mid-September in all three.) If Hillary Clinton wins any of those states, it’ll be a knockout blow.

Clinton has five must-win states: Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Virginia. (Polling finds her ahead in all five.) The first four are part of the Blue Wall; Virginia is not. If Trump wins any of those states, he’ll be headed to the White House.

What We Can Do for the Two Imprisoned Pastors in Sudan

Todd Nettleton of Voice of the Martyrs explained what we can do for Rev. Hassan Abduraheem and Rev. Kuwa Shamal, the two Christian pastors in Sudan.

“Praying is the first thing we need to do. We need to pray for not only for the four men in prison, but for their families as well. They have wives, they have children that are suffering through this time as well. We’re also encouraging people to write letters to the Sudanese Embassy in Washington, DC. Demand the release of these men. They’re not spies, they’re not criminals. They’re simply Christian men who were trying to help someone who was suffering. They’re in jail simply for helping someone. That should not be a crime.”

Send a short, polite two-sentence letter to Embassy Of The Republic Of Sudan, asking by name, that these men be released immediately. The address is 2210 Massachusetts Ave, Washington, DC, 20008.

Donald Trump Skips Practicing for Debate with Hillary Clinton

Mitt Romney and Donald Trump are polar opposites when it comes to debate prep, reports AP. Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, held 16 mock debates and even arrived in Denver, the site of his first debate with Obama, several days in advance for final run-throughs and to prepare for the host city’s altitude.

By contrast, Trump has skipped practicing a full debate as he gets ready for his first on-stage meeting with Hillary Clinton which experts say is a mistake and a disadvantage. Newt Gingrich said, “His instincts are so different than everyone else’s that I think trying to coach him will screw him up.”

Mike Pence Has Signed Pro-Life Bills in Indiana and Fought to Defund Planned Parenthood in Congress

Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick Mike Pence is pro-life both in word and action, reports LifeNews.com. As Indiana Governor he signed pro-life bills into law and as a Congressman, Pence fought to defund Planned Parenthood. During a question-and-answer session with Pastor Tom Anderson of Living Word Bible Church near Phoenix, Arizona, Pence highlighted the Republican ticket’s anti-abortion stand, saying, “There is no more important cause to the Pences than the cause of life.”

What the Two Candidates Need to Demonstrate in Tonight’s Debate

What must the two major presidential candidates do to be successful in tonight’s debate? The Associated Press contends that Donald Trump needs to prove that he has the policy depth and gravitas to serve as commander in chief. And Hillary Clinton needs to connect with Americans who question whether she can be trusted.

And that’s the World View in Five Minutes.
