Pakistan Christian teen girl abducted and raped
Earlier this month, a 16-year-old Pakistani Christian girl was kidnapped near her college in Okara by a Muslim man, reports International Christian Concern.
She was drugged and then driven to Faisalabad in southwest Lahore. There, she was raped several times. The next morning, she was found by her mother Grace, laying unconscious on the street near her home.
According to a local pastor, the perpetrator harassed her for several months. She refused his advances, at which point he escalated his harassments into sexual assault.
The harrowing story reveals the abuse of Christians in Pakistan and how justice is often elusive for the persecuted.
According to Open Doors, Pakistan is the eighth worst country in the world for the persecution of Christians.
Revelation 21:8 says, “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
Canadian truckers oppose COVID-shot mandates
The Freedom Convoy 2022 began as a protest by Canadian truckers against COVID-shot mandates introduced by the Government of Canada on January 15, 2022. Composed of several routes traversing all of the Canadian provinces, the truck convoy made of hundreds of trucks reached Ottawa on Saturday.
Prior to January 15th, truck drivers and other essential workers had been exempt from the two-week quarantine for unvaccinated travelers crossing Canada’s borders. The exemption’s abolition has been criticized by some truckers and politicians for having the potential to exacerbate the supply chain disruptions already experienced in Canada. Nearly 90% of truckers working in Canada have received the COVID shot and would not be affected by the quarantine requirement.
Donald Trump Jr. has praised the convoy stating “When we push back against the insanity, we can win, and that’s how all this ends…This is a genius idea. We need to see more of this in the U.S.”
And Elon Musk, the entrepreneur, tweeted, “Canadian truckers rule.”
Beijing’s bizarre anti-COVID Olympics bubble
For the thousands of athletes, journalists and others descending on Beijing for the Winter Olympics, China’s strict pandemic measures are creating a surreal and at times anxious experience, reports the Associated Press.
China is isolating everyone coming from abroad from any contact with the general public for the duration of the Games, which run February 4th-20th. That means being taken from the Beijing airport in special vehicles to a hotel surrounded by temporary barricades that keep participants in and the public out.
Photographer Jae Hong described seeing passengers met by workers in white, full-body protective gear. Everyone is tested for COVID-19 at the airport before being transported to their barricaded hotels, the entrances protected by round-the-clock guards.
Everyone is tested daily — failing to get tested the previous evening means being stuck in your hotel the next day.
So far, organizers said Thursday there have been 129 positive tests among the 4,046 people who have arrived for the Games. Of those, two are either athletes or team officials. Those who test positive are taken to a hospital if they have symptoms or a quarantine hotel if they do not.
China has a “zero tolerance” policy under which it quickly locks down affected areas and conducts mass testing of residents to find infections and isolate them. All two million residents of Fengtai, an area within Beijing, are undergoing a third round of testing since last weekend.
Biden leading Trump, DeSantis in new poll
President Joe Biden is leading former President Donald Trump and Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis in two hypothetical, head-to-head match-ups for the 2024 presidential election, reports TheHill.com.
The survey, conducted by Marquette Law School, found that 43 percent of adults nationwide would support Biden if the 2024 presidential election were held today, while 33 percent would vote for Trump in a one-on-one match-up.
In a hypothetical race against DeSantis, however, Biden polls slightly worse: 41 percent of adults nationwide said they would throw their support behind Biden, while 33 percent would support DeSantis.
Heisman Trophy winner thanked “my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”
And finally, last month, Alabama Crimson Tide’s sophomore quarterback Bryce Young recently won the most prestigious award in college football, the Heisman Trophy, reports MovieGuide.
The 20-year-old NFL prospect gave the glory to God in his acceptance speech in New York City on December 11.
YOUNG: “First of all, I’d like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Without Him, I couldn’t be here and through Him all things are possible.
“I’d like to thank my dad for always being there for me. From day one, you’ve always been by my side. You’ve always been a supporter. More than just a father to me, but a best friend to me. And for that, I’ll be eternally grateful.”
Young is the fourth Alabama player to win the Heisman, but the first quarterback in the school’s history.
Young’s 43 touchdowns and 4,322 passing yards helped him win the award by a landslide with 684 first-place votes. Next in line was Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson, who received 78 first-place votes.
Later in the evening, Young later posted a photo, and once again turned the attention towards God.
He tweeted, “God is great! Truly grateful for everyone who made this possible and for all the support I’ve received. All glory to God!”
Psalm 86:12 says, “I will give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and will glorify Your name forever.”
