Two Nigerians girls rescued eight years after kidnapping
Praise God!
After over eight years in captivity, two more Nigerian school girls from Chibok have been rescued. Now with children themselves, the girls were forced into marriages with the Boko Haram Muslim fighters who captured them, reports International Christian Concern.
1 Peter 3:12 says, “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
Even after these girls have returned, nearly 100 girls are still missing.
Mass kidnappings—especially of children—can largely be traced back to the 2014 kidnapping of 276 schoolgirls from Chibok. These girls were mostly Christians and many are still missing to this day. Kidnapping has increased rapidly since the Chibok incident.
Kidnappers have extorted tens of millions of dollars from families in recent years, and the problem only seems to be getting worse.
Open Doors lists Nigeria as the seventh most dangerous country worldwide for Christians.
America is in recession
The Bureau of Economic Analysis reports that the U.S. economy contracted for the second straight quarter from April to June, hitting a widely accepted rule of thumb for a recession.
The Gross Domestic Product, or the total value of all goods and services produced in a country’s economy, fell 0.9% at an annualized pace for the period. That follows a 1.6% decline in the first quarter and was worse than the Dow Jones estimate for a gain of 0.3%.
However, the Biden administration is in total denial that America is in a recession, according to the widely agreed upon criteria of two back-to-back quarters of negative GDP growth.
Listen to Fox News Channel’s Peter Doocy go toe-to-toe with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
DOOCY: “Why is it that White House officials are trying to redefine recession?”
JEAN-PIERRE: “No, we’re not redefining recession.”
DOOCY: “If — we all understand a recession to be two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth in a row and then you have White House officials come up here to say, ‘No, no, no. That’s not what a recession is, it’s something else.’ How is that not redefining recession?”
JEAN-PIERRE: “Because that’s not the definition.”
Amy Grant hospitalized after bike crash
Singer Amy Grant was injured in a bicycle crash on Wednesday.
According to The Tennessean, Grant is in Vanderbilt University Medical Center being treated for cuts and abrasions received after crashing her bike when she was riding with a friend in a Nashville park.
Thankfully, Grant was wearing her helmet when riding.
The wreck comes two years after Grant received open-heart surgery in Nashville to fix a birth defect.
Marshall Foster: America needs to repent
And finally, as The Worldview reported on July 25th, Christian historian Marshall Foster, the author of The American Covenant: The Untold Story, and the founder of The World History Institute, died of pancreatic cancer a week ago today.
Appearing on Kirk Cameron’s TV show “Takeaways,” he described our need as a country to repent of our sin, just like the church of Ephesus described in Revelation 2.
FOSTER: “Jesus said in Revelation 2, to the most successful church in the New Testament, to the church at Ephesus — they had all the money, power, they had the Apostle Paul be the pastor of their church for three years. They were the hot place to be. And yet the Ephesus church had fallen away.
“Jesus said, ‘You have lost your first love.’ And what did He say? He said, ‘This is what you need to do. Remember from whence thou has fallen, repent, and do the deeds you did at first.’”
Dr. Foster described the revival, a Great Awakening, that grew out of the Gospel preaching of George Whitefield. The key is for all of us to draw close to Christ and share the Good News.
FOSTER: “If I will do my part, be faithful in the little things and do what God’s called me to do, and then reach out to my neighbors and then reach out to others, it explodes. Revivals and awakenings just take off.
“George Whitefield started with nothing down in a little orphanage down in Georgia. And within a few weeks, they say, ‘Can you preach?’ He began to preach up the coast. Within the next 20 or 30 years, as a result of seven little trips, half of the South was converted to Christ and one-third of the North came to know Christ.
“The people’s hearts were warmed when this one man, and then the other faithful pastors — the minority of the pastors who got right with God — they began to preach the Gospel. People said, ‘Yes, I want to do it God’s way.’
“That resulted in them being willing to have people like Patrick Henry, who were saved in the Awakening, Samuel Adams, George Washington. These great men rose up out of that Awakening and became the leaders of the American Revolution.”
The Celebration of the Life of Dr. Foster is scheduled for this Sunday, July 31st at 1:30pm at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin, Tennessee.
In describing God’s providential hand on America’s founding, William Bradford, the former Governor of Massachusetts and the author of the book Of Plymouth Plantation, wrote, “Thus out of small beginnings, greater things have been produced by [God’s] hand, that made all things of nothing, and gives being to all things that are; and, as one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled hath shone unto many.”
Romans 14:8 says, “If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”
Join me and send a hand-written card of sympathy to Dr. Foster’s wife, Trish, as well as their son, Darin, and daughter, Dana. Send it to World History Institute, P.O. Box 4673, Thousand Oaks, CA 91359. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to his ministry.
