Christians Arrested in India for Taking Kids to Summer Camp Released on Bail

Nine Indian Christians were arrested in May on false charges of “forcing children to convert” to Christianity who came to a Christian summer camp they were running. Just this past week the remaining six imprisoned Christians were released on bail.

William Stark of International Christian Concern told The World View that their release came when the case went to the higher courts.

“They had their bail rejected four times in the lower courts before they actually brought their case up to the high courts.”

Stark said that the decision on their case was unusually slow.

“The initial arrest was back on May 21st, so these people have been in prison for a good three months now. There’s a lot of reasons behind that, a lot of factors behind that. My local contacts say that a lot of the reason these six particularly were kept in the prison was because of political pressure being put on the lower courts where they initial hearings were taking place.”

California Senate Passes Bill Enforcing Transgender Pronouns

According to HotAir.com, the California State Senate has actually passed a bill in a vote of 26-12 that would make it a criminal offense to address a transgender person by the wrong pronoun.

If passed and signed by the governor, the bill could enforce criminal penalties, including jail time, against someone who refuses to address a transgender individual by their chosen gender pronoun.

Family Drowns in Their Van While Trying to Escape Texas Flooding

Hurricane Harvey has claimed the lives of 14 people, including a family of six trying to escape the floodwaters, reports Fox News.

The four children and their great-grandparents died Sunday afternoon when Samuel Saldivar, the driver of the van and the children’s great-uncle, attempted to pick them up amid the flooding. A strong current swept the van away and into the Greens Bayou.

The driver managed to escape. He told everyone to get out of the van using the back door, but the van quickly sank, KHOU reported.

The victims include Manuel Saldivar, 84, and his wife Belia, 81; Daisy, 6; Xavier, 8; Dominic, 14; and Devy, 16.

Joel Osteen Receives Backlash for Closing Lakewood Church During Hurricane Aftermath

Hurricane Harvey has left 300,000 people without power, displaced 30,000 in temporary shelters across Texas and FEMA is expecting as many as 450,000 potential disaster victims.

In light of the raw need, Houstonians were not pleased with Joel Osteen’s initial response to Hurricane Harvey when the megachurch posted on social media that “Lakewood Church is inaccessible due to severe flooding!”

The backlash was immediate.

For example, RuneK_15 tweeted: “Shame on Joel Osteen…Jesus would open the doors and care for the needy.”

Located in the renovated Compaq Center, Lakewood is the largest church in America with 52,000 people attending per week.

In a second statement quoted by ABC, Osteen said, “We will continue to be a distribution center to those in need. We are prepared to house people once shelters reach capacity.”

In a subsequent tweet yesterday morning, Lakewood Church, feeling the heat, announced that they are now receiving people who need shelter and also helping evacuees with supplies such as baby food and formula.

Couple Leaves Waitress $1,200 Tip in God’s Name

A New Jersey waitress was left stunned after a young couple left her a $1,200 tip on a $20 bill, saying God told them to do so, reports CBS2.

The pair chatted with 21-year-old Brianna Siegel at Bar Louie in Woodbridge, New Jersey, asking her, “Do you believe in God?” When they paid their bill, the couple handed the waitress an envelope and told her not to open it until they were gone.

Siegel said that when she opened the envelope later, she nearly fell to her knees.

The note said, “Bri, God cared for you. This is not a coincidence. 1 Peter 5:7 says, ‘Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you’. I pray that you are the best RN out there.”

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, 11 trillion gallons of rain have fallen on Texas, prompting the need for 3,000 people to be rescued in and around Houston, the fourth-largest American city.

Franklin Graham sent 250 crisis-trained rapid response chaplains to provide emotional and spiritual care to the victims who are reeling from fear and loss.

Picture of Fearless Dog in Texas Goes Viral

In the midst of Hurricane Harvey’s historic flooding and devastation, one story of a fearless dog is capturing hearts with what many are calling the tough Texas spirit.

TheBlaze.com reports on the story of Otis, a dog who lives in Sinton, Texas, just north of Corpus Christi. Following the deluge of water and high winds, the German Shepard mix was seen walking down the street carrying a big bag of dog food in his mouth. I’ve linked the picture that went viral in our transcript today at www.TheWorldView.com.

Salvador Segovia, who said Otis belongs to his five-year-old grandson, Carter, attests that Otis is a special pet, saying, Otis “has been instrumental in helping comfort Carter following numerous hospital visits for seizures and asthma.”

Plus, Otis regularly makes trips to Dairy Queen where he gets a burger, and he’s the only dog allowed to lie down in front of the county court house.

Planned Parenthood is supposed to be pro-woman. After all it’s all about women’s health and reproductive health and women’s rights. Right?

Apparently not, reports Life News.

Planned Parenthood activists protested the ceremony honoring Iowa’s first female governor Kim Reynolds just because she’s pro-life.

And that’s the World View in Five Minutes.
