Chinese Christians Willing to Risk Everything for the Gospel

Pastor Huang of Guangzhou Bible Reformed Church in China has been fasting and praying inside a police station for five days after being detained this week for “disrupting public services.”

The World View spoke to Gina Goh of International Christian Concern about how the Chinese government is trying to suppress Christianity.

“It’s very interesting, because activities and beliefs; they are together. How can you separate them? So, that almost means that they are asking them, ‘So, you are free to believe whatever, but please just have it in your brain.’ Do not do any activities, attend services because then you have a problem. The other choice is for you to join the Three Self Church, the sanctioned church, but most house church leaders don’t want that. They don’t want a controlled church.  They don’t want a controlled sermon. That’s why they continue to face this push from the government.”

Goh also shared what keeps these Chinese Christians going.

“It comes down to faith because they know what awaits them could be imprisonment, harassment, torture, separation from their family for years, but they are ready to sacrifice for their faith, and they feel like with God on their side, they don’t really have to fear. And they also want to be a good testimony to other Christians who are experiencing the same thing.”

Hebrews 11:37 reminds us, “They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; of whom the world was not worthy.”

Churches, Non-Profits Object to New Tax

A coalition of 32 faith-based organizations joined the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention this week, calling on Congress to repeal part of the new tax code that requires historically tax-exempt organizations like churches to file tax returns on certain benefits, reports The Christian Post.

In a letter to Congress, the coalition argues that churches and non-profits will lose around $1.7 billion over the next decade with the new tax.
