Imprisoned Vietnamese activist denied his Bible

Vietnamese activist and veteran Le Dinh Luong, who was arrested on July 24, 2017 for alleged subversion, has been denied the use of the Bible, reports International Christian Concern. He is serving a 20-year prison sentence,

According to human rights activist Quynh Dao, a member of Amnesty International Australia, Mr. Luong began a hunger strike on October 4.  Dao said, “The prison limited and even didn’t allow him to use the Bible … , violating his religious freedom.”

In addition, the Nam Ha prison environment is toxic, literally, as there have been mining activities nearby which go on day and night. Small particles from a burned substance often fly into the prison cells. As a result, Mr. Luong’s breathing is obstructed.

Senator Diane Feinstein vs. Judge Amy Coney Barrett on abortion

In day two of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court, Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein of California pressed Judge Barrett on her views of two landmark abortion rights cases, Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

FEINSTEIN: “Do you agree with Justice Scalia’s view that Roe was wrongly decided?”

BARRETT: “Senator, I completely understand why you are asking the question. But I can’t pre-commit or say, ‘Yes, I’m going in with some agenda.’ Because I’m not. I don’t have any agenda. I have no agenda to try to overrule Casey. I have an agenda to stick to the rule of law and decide cases as they come.

“It would actually be wrong and a violation of the canons for me to do that, as a sitting judge. If I express a view on a precedent, one way or another, whether I say I love it, or I hate it, it signals to litigants that I might tilt one way or another in a pending case.”

FEINSTEIN: “You’ve got a lovely family.  You understand all the implications of family life. You should be very proud of that. But my position is a little different. You’re going on the biggest court of this land with a problem out there that all women see one way or another in their life. Would you commit yourself on whether you would or would not?”

BARRETT: “Senator, what I will commit is that I will obey all the rules of ‘stare decisis’ [Latin for “to stand by things decided”] that if a question comes up before me about whether Casey, or any other case should be overruled, that I will follow the law of ‘stare decisis’ applying it as the court has articulated, yet applying all the factors — reliance, workability, being undermined by later facts and law — just all the standard factors. I promise to do that for any issue that comes up — abortion or anything else. I’ll follow the law.”

Ben Carson: Stop removing Bibles in housing common areas

Dr. Ben Carson, secretary of Housing and Urban Development, said the department is investigating a complaint against the owner and manager of senior apartments in Oklahoma for violating the Fair Housing Act by removing Bibles and other religious literature from their common areas, reports the Christian Post.

Carson said, “Religious liberty is at the core of our nation’s identity and will be upheld under the Fair Housing Act. Barring religious materials infringes upon this right, and the Trump administration will not stand for discrimination against any group for practicing their religious traditions.”

Wilhoit Properties, which manages the apartments and assisted-living homes owned by Vintage Housing, was accused of sending an email to their 116 assisted living facilities, asking the managers to remove Bibles and Christian literature from their libraries located in the common areas that were shared by all residents. That’s according to the Sapulpa Times.

Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Smithsonian ‘Girlhood’ exhibit: Margaret Sanger & transgender star Jazz

The Smithsonian Institute has unveiled a new “Girlhood” exhibit at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. which will run through January 2nd.

Among the two honorees are Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, known for advocating racist abortions, and transgender reality TV star Jazz Jennings who is a biological boy, reports the Christian Post.

The Smithsonian’s absurd description says, “By embracing themselves, girls break barriers every day to change our culture’s definitions of girlhood. For many, these rules just don’t fit. Jazz Jennings is one of those girls. Jazz always knew she ‘was a girl trapped in a boy’s body.’ She … reminds us that girls can be assigned male at birth and that girlhood comes in many forms.”

Well, Genesis 1:27 declares, “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female HHhe created them.”

Catholic priest: “You cannot be a Catholic and be a Democrat”

And finally, Father James Altman of St. James the Lesser Catholic Church in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, is in hot water for saying that you cannot be a Catholic and a Democrat in 2020, reports LifeSiteNews.com.  His Bishop is not pleased.

Listen to what the priest said.

ALTMAN: “Here’s a memo to clueless, baptized Catholics out there: You cannot be Catholic and be a Democrat. Period. Their party platform absolutely is against everything the Catholic Church teaches. So, just quit pretending that you’re Catholic and vote Democrat. Repent of your support of that party and its platform. There will be 60 million and counting, aborted babies, standing at the gates of Heaven barring your Democrat entrance. And nothing you can say will ever excuse you for your direct or indirect support of that diabolical agenda. Period. The end.”

Father Altman had a special message to Catholic clergy.

ALTMAN: “It’s too bad there are so many gutless cowards in the clergy who refuse to speak up and speak out on that truth and make it crystal clear. There should be no confusion among any Catholic.”

AMC Theatres in cash crunch

Movie theater giant AMC Theatres said Tuesday that its “existing cash resources would be largely depleted by the end of 2020 or early 2021” if current trends persist, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Thereafter, to meet its financial obligations “as they become due, the company will require additional sources of liquidity or increases in attendance levels.”

AMC Theatres shares were down 6.9 percent in early Tuesday trading at $3.80.
