60 Christians killed in Ethiopia, Africa

At least 60 Orthodox Christians were killed during two recent attacks in Ethiopia, reports International Christian Concern.

According to the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church’s Holy Synod, 14 people were killed on October 20 in the Merti district, and an additional 46 were killed on October 24 in the Shirka district. The church also reported that more than 20 people were seriously wounded and 20 homes were burned down.

Hailu Adugna, a spokesperson for the Oromia regional government, said that he believes the Oromo Liberation Army is responsible for the attacks. He reportedly accused them of trying to provoke ethnic and religious conflict to divert attention from their military losses in the north.

Investigators with the United Nations have accused the group of rapes, kidnappings, and killings. Other entities have documented government forces conducting disappearances, indiscriminate drone strikes, and extrajudicial killings.

The Oromo Liberation Army is part of the Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Alliance for Survival — seven groups that formed in September to oust Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government.

According to Open Doors, Ethiopia, Africa is the 37th most dangerous country worldwide for Christians.

Alaskan Democrats attempting to defraud voters

The election has gotten crazy in Alaska.

Republican Senator Dan S. Sullivan is being challenged by Democrat Mary Peltola and an independent named Dan J. Sullivan.

According to a New York Times investigative article, the independent Dan J. Sullivan was actually recruited by the Democrats to run in order to confuse the Alaskan voters who might think they were actually voting for the Republican incumbent.

At a press availability at Joint Base Andrews on October 28th, President Donald Trump said this.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: “They took a candidate named Dan Sullivan to run against another candidate who’s a great senator named Dan Sullivan in order to cheat in the election.  They said they didn’t do it, and we caught ‘em cold.

“Mary Peltola should resign from the race. I think she should be prosecuted criminally for what she did. And I think that the people that participated with her should.

“They swore in all statements that they knew nothing about it. … It turned out it was a scheme by the Democrats. That’s what they do best. They cheat. They have bad policy, but they cheat.

“It’s a fraud to the public. … They had a Dan Sullivan running against Senator Dan Sullivan.  And they didn’t put Senator in front. So you had two Dan Sullivans. The people aren’t going to be able to tell. … It was a plot by the Democrat Party. …

“I think the fake Dan Sullivan, and Mary Peltola should — number one, they should be taken off the ballot. And number two, they should be prosecuted.”

Army General fired over possible leak of classified information

Army Lt. General Brett Sylvia had been abruptly removed from his job as director for strategy, plans and policy on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reports the Washington Post.

The Pentagon said Thursday that it has made a criminal referral in an alleged leak case, claiming the ouster of a top general was necessary “to protect sensitive information.”

The unusual announcement followed reports by The Washington Post that in that role he reported to General Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs.

In a statement on Thursday, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said that the War Department has “zero tolerance for the intentional, unauthorized disclosure of classified information” and that following an “extensive” internal investigation, the matter — “along with others” — had been referred to the Justice Department “for potential legal action.”

Actor Patrick Stewart died at 86

Do you recognize this voice?

PATRICK STEWART: “But I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey, reminds us to cherish every moment, because they’ll never come again.”

English actor Patrick Stewart, best known for his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” died on October 28th at the age of 86.

Hebrews 9:27 says, “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”

Stewart died in Los Angeles after having battled Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body Dementia, reports the Associated Press.

Stewart found a connection between his background as a Shakespearean actor and Picard.

In his memoir, he wrote, “There is a formality to the way they speak and comport themselves that remind me of numerous Shakespearean situations I’d been in onstage. I should play Jean Luc, I realized, as if he were a character in ‘Henry IV,’ which is about brave men.”

Stewart enjoyed a prolific stage career that included a one-man rendition of “A Christmas Carol.”

On his Instagram account, which has 1.7 million followers, he recorded all 154 of Shakespeare’s Sonnets.

His inspiration was Sunny, his 48-year-old wife.

STEWART: “The idea of creating an audio edition of Shakespeare sonnets came about somewhat grimly as a result of the COVID pandemic. Sunny asked me how I would feel recording a different sonnet every morning for social media.

“After taking a deep breath, I hesitatingly replied, ‘Doing so could be very nice.’ Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

“I am not much of a social media man, but as we talked, I began to feel Sunny’s idea might, in fact, be an unexpected and excellent response to the misery of COVID. And to my astonishment, it was.”

Christian singer Guy Penrod faces health crisis

And finally, Gospel singer Guy Penrod is asking for prayers as he faces a serious health diagnosis, reports The Christian Post.

Penrod appeared on an episode of the “JustWhenever” podcast on October 26th, hosted by his former bandmate Mark Lowry. Both Penrod and Lowry were members of the Gaither Vocal Band, a Christian music group.

LOWRY: “You say you’re going through some health issues that we’re not going to talk about, but what’s God been teaching you through all this?”

PENROD: “Life’s short. I repeat James a lot. ‘Life is but a vapor. It’s here for a little while and vanishes away.’ [James 4:14]

“Don’t hold a grudge. You say, ‘Bitter? Party of one.’”

LOWRY: (Laughs)

PENROD: “Yeah, you know, we’ve tried to slow some things down and be intentional.”

LOWRY: “Well, how can people pray for you?”

PENROD: “It’s serious. There’s only one potential fix for it, and it’s a bone marrow transplant. It’s blood stuff in the bones. I’m not the guy that likes to hide away, for the most part. You know, the trouble or difficulty that we’re going through. I’d just as soon have a team of warriors like you, praying and calling God, and bringing my name up to Him.”

LOWRY: “Well, what if we pray right now and ask the Lord if He would touch and heal our brother Guy?

“Father, thank you so much for Guy Penrod. Thank you for all He has meant to my life all these years. Lord, You know more than the doctors do about his situation, and nothing ever takes You by surprise. Father, will You touch Your son and heal him from the top of his head to the sole of his feet? Lord, would You fix whatever needs to be fixed? Would you guide the doctors’ minds? Would You give them supernatural wisdom? Touch Guy, Lord Jesus.”

Join me and send a 3-sentence get well card to Guy Penrod, c/o A to Z Entertainment, 724 Hall of Fame Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee 37915.

James 5:15 declares, “The prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.”
