Eritrea, African officials have imprisoned 400 Christians

Christian persecution in Eritrea continues, with at least 400 Christians held under torturous conditions right now, none of whom have received a trial or even been charged with a crime.

Several pastors have spent 7,000 days in prison— that’s over 19 years of their lives.  One pastor remarked about the persecution to Todd Nettleton, writing for the Christian Post: “Nothing comes to us without the will of God. Through persecution — I don’t know why, but the church grows.”

International Christian Concern encourages both prayer and letter writing on behalf of our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ. Get your letter writing packet at www.persecution.org/letters/  2 Corinthians 12:10 reads, “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Justice denied for imprisoned Chinese pastor

A Chinese house church pastor from Yunnan Province has been arrested, and nobody has been able to visit him since April — including his lawyer, reports China Aid.

Pastor Chang Hao was known for seeking justice for other persecuted Christians, and supporting churches facing persecution at the hands of the state.  He was arrested for the trumped up charge of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble.”

Pray for Pastor Hao.

House prices continue to rise

U.S. housing prices are outrageous, setting records for un-affordability, according to a report from Redfin, a real estate group.

The median house mortgage payment is now running at $2,605, almost 20% higher than just a year ago. To compare, the median house mortgage payment in January 2021 was $1,350.

Plus, California’s median house payment is running at 64% of the median household income, and another 36 states are absorbing about 30% of the median annual income on a new home monthly payment.

Incredibly, home prices are still on an upswing, with interest rates hovering around 7%. The median home sale price was just over $380,000, up 3.2% from a year earlier. That’s the biggest increase since November.

Yellow trucking filed bankruptcy

In other business news, Yellow Corporation, one of the largest trucking companies in America, filed bankruptcy last week.

CEO Darren Hawkins issued a letter blaming the Teamsters Union for a “ruthless campaign” of “union intransigence, bullying and deliberately destructive tactics” as contributing to the demise of the 100-year-old company.  Sadly, 30,000 truckers and other employees lost their jobs.

Indictments against Trump hasn’t impacted his popularity

The various court proceedings against the former president do not seem to be affecting the polls much.

Real Clear Politics has Donald Trump staying neck and neck with Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election polls. The last three polls indicate a dead heat — a zero to one percent lead for the current president. And the last 14 polls in July averaged only a one percent lead for Biden on average.

DeSantis to NBC: I will support pro-life policies

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis told an NBC interviewer yesterday that he would be a pro-life president and support “pro-life policies.”

Listen.

DESANTIS: “I would not allow what a lot of the Left wants to do which is to override pro-life protections throughout the country, all the way up, really, until the moment of birth in some instances which I think is infanticide.”

Religious background of GOP presidential candidates

Other candidates for the top office in post-Christian America include Vivek Ramaswamy, a Hindu, who recently clarified on the Patrick Bet-David podcast, “I am not a Christian.

Ron DeSantis and Chris Christie are professing Roman Catholics. Former Vice President Mike Pence is an evangelical Christian. And Nikki Haley declares herself Methodist, with some allegiance to her Hindu upbringing.

Interestingly, Rishi Sunak, the United Kingdom Prime Minister, is also a Hindu.

Second fusion reaction reveals God’s power

And finally, God created the sun and the stars as gigantic fusion reactors.

Scientists from Lawrence Livermore laboratories in Livermore, California have announced a second net-energy gain in a fusion reaction which took place on July 30th.  The first successful reaction occurred in December of last year.

The experiment generated 3.15 megajoules of energy, while consuming only 2.05 megajoules in the fusion, reports Reuters.  A megajoule is a unit of energy equal to one million joules. That’s spelled j-o-u-l-e-s.

Consider Isaiah 40:26 today. “Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:  Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host, one by one, and calls forth each of them by name. Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the Earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom.”
