Nigerian gunmen killed 50 worshippers

Serious violence erupted on Sunday in Southwestern Nigeria. This time it occurred at St. Francis Catholic Church where at least 50 people were killed by gunmen, reports International Christian Concern.

Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu responded on Twitter, saying, “This vile and satanic attack is a calculated assault on the peace-loving people of Owo Kingdom who have enjoyed relative peace over the years. … I appeal to our people to maintain calm and let the security agencies take charge … the perpetrators will never escape. We are after them. And I can assure you we will get them.”

The recent attack is a new development, introducing violence to another part of the country.  Since 2010, the radical Fulani Muslim herdsmen have killed thousands in the middle belt of Nigeria, while Boko Haram has killed thousands in the Northeast corner of the country.

Fulani herdsmen attacks have been pushing further south since 2015, as indicated in a report from WorldWatchMonitor.org.

Biden’s 41% approval rating

President Joe Biden’s approval ratings have dipped to a dismal 41%, reports FiveThirtyEight.com.

That’s lower than every president at this stage in their presidencies since Jimmy Carter.  Trump dipped to 42%.

United Methodist Churches leave denomination on Biblical grounds

Another 70 United Methodist churches from North Georgia announced they will be disaffiliating with the conference over the homosexuality debate, reports the Christian Post.

That is in addition to 132 churches already affiliating with the Global Methodist Church — a conservative spinoff from the mother denomination. Florida’s regional chapter has also reported 107 Florida congregations leaving the United Methodist Church for the Global Methodist Church.

The new denomination’s Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline asserts a pro-life position, a one-man-one-woman definition of marriage, and allows for women pastors.

In Revelation 3:1-3, Jesus warns the churches, “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God. Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent.”

China’s plummeting birth rate

China’s birth rate has slipped to 1.15, almost the lowest in the world, reports the BBC.

Population experts are expecting China’s population to decrease this year —  the first time in 60 years.

The Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences team expects China will lose half its population by 2100, dropping to 587 million. By that time, every worker will have to support 1.2 retirees in China.

Within about ten years, India is expected to overtake China’s population.

U.S. gun deaths in 1990s higher than now

The U.S. media made something out of 15 murders over the weekend, marking this year as “one of the deadliest years on record” for gun deaths.

The murder rate has increased from 4.2 to 6.9 per 100,000 in the U.S. since 2010.

However, the early 1990s witnessed higher murder rates in the U.S. — around 9.5 per 100,000.

Humble month for Christians vs. Pride month for wicked

It’s humble month for God-fearing Christians around the world, but pride month for the wicked.

“GayPrideCalendar.com” lists 464 so-called “pride” marches and events scheduled around the world, including 243 in the United States celebrating sexual perversion.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported that 70,000 people attended the Salt Lake City celebration of pride and licentiousness last weekend. The proudest cities, boasting the largest pride marches this year, will be Sao Paulo, Brazil, and New York City, expecting over three million to attend.

Isaiah 2:11-12 says, “The lofty looks of man shall be humbled. The haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. For the day of the Lord of hosts shall come upon everything proud and lofty, upon everything lifted up—and it shall be brought low.”

Real estate bust

The real estate bust has arrived.

Inventory of homes actively listed for sale increased 26% between April and May. And price reductions changed by 74% over the same period.  But, the median listing price is a whopping $447,000, up from $330,000 just two years ago.

6 million workers disappeared since pandemic

Where are the workers?

The American workforce is still about 6,000,000 people short of the pre-pandemic trend level.  This is contributing to the unprecedented 11,000,000 job openings in the labor market.

Where are the workers?  Maybe they’re watching YouTube.

YouTube subscriptions increased from 2.2 billion to 2.6 billion since January of 2020. YouTube gets 73% of video online customers, and Netflix takes in 43%. Facebook comes in third with 34% of the market.

Worldview listeners form Barbados and Nigeria speak out

And finally, listen to why some Worldview listeners tune in the newscast.

In an email to me at Adam@TheWorldview.com, Beth Everett in Barbados said, “Our family, including our 12-year-old and 14-year-old, listens to The Worldview every evening as part of our family devotional time. We especially appreciate the view of the news from a biblical perspective that always reminds us of God’s sovereignty in all things. Thank you for helping us keep our eyes on Jesus, His purposes, and the truths from His Word.”

And Edward Okwori from Lagos, Nigeria, wrote, “The Worldview in 5 Minutes has been a blessing to me as it has given me perspective and a heart for those of our brethren who are suffering. I also understand how important it is to have a biblical worldview in life. I am thankful to the entire team. God bless your good work.”

The Worldview needs to raise $76,000 by July 5th

There is an expense to the production of the newscast.

We take time to research stories, conduct interviews, grab soundbites, write the newscast, locate an appropriate Scripture, edit the text, record and edit the audio, select the daily image and upload to several websites.  Every weekday, whether it’s a holiday or not, we are busy doing our part. Will you consider investing in this Christian ministry?

By Tuesday, July 5, we need to raise $76,000 to stay on the air.

So, by this Friday, June 10th we are trying to raise $19,000.  Would you prayerfully consider being one of 6 Worldview listeners to pledge $100/month for 12 months for a gift of $1,200?  Or one of 12 people to give $50/month for 12 months for a gift of $600? Or perhaps you could be one of 24 people to pledge $25/month for 12 months for a gift of $300?  Just go to TheWorldview.com, click on give and then select the dollar amount and the recurring donation tab.

If every listener does something, we will reach that $76,000 goal.
