Coronavirus has infected 24,000, killed 490
Christians in China are responding to the deadly coronavirus outbreak that started in the Chinese city of Wuhan and has infected over 24,000 people and killed at least 490.
A pastor in Wuhan wrote a letter on January 23, asking for prayer as the critical situation is a test of their faith. The pastor wrote: “We have a responsibility to pray for those in this city who are fearful, and to bring to them the peace of Christ.”
Chinese Christians have also been passing out face masks and Gospel pamphlets and broadcasting sermons in their communities, activities that would normally get them arrested.
Chinese officials recently confiscated supplies sent by overseas Christians to serve local hospitals through local churches in China.
Romans 8:35, 37, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? . . . Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
First American with coronavirus released in Washington state
The first U.S. patient infected with the new China-based coronavirus has left the hospital and told the Associated Press on Monday that he is getting better.
The 35-year-old man thanked the health care providers at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, Washington after returning home.
Despite cancellations over Christophobia, Graham is undeterred
On Friday, two venues in the U.K. became the latest to cancel evangelistic events by Franklin Graham.
Venues have accused Graham of preaching “hate.” Graham is known for his opposition to homosexual behavior.
Despite the setbacks, Graham tweeted on Saturday, “I’m looking forward to preaching the Gospel across the UK in late May and June. Hundreds of churches are praying & planning to be a part of these evangelistic outreaches. People everywhere are searching for something to fill the void in their lives. Jesus Christ is the answer.”
Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.”
U.S. Senate acquits President Trump on both impeachment articles
The U.S. Senate voted to acquit President Donald Trump on the two articles of impeachment presented by the Democratic House.
Listen to Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts announce the vote on Article 1, on the abuse of power charge.
ROBERTS: “The question is on the first article of impeachment. Senators, how say you? Is the respondent, Donald John Trump, guilty or not guilty? A roll call vote is required. The clerk will call the roll.”
After the roll call vote was taken, Chief Justice Roberts said this.
ROBERTS: “Article one, section three, clause six of the Constitution regarding the vote required for conviction and impeachment provides that no person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two-thirds of members present this article of impeachment.
“48 senators have pronounced Donald John Trump, President of the United States, guilty as charged. 52 senators have pronounced him not guilty as charged. Two thirds of the Senators present not having pronounced him guilty, the Senate judges that the respondent, Donald John Trump, President of the United States, is not guilty as charged in the first article of impeachment.”
Then, Chief Justice Roberts addressed the second article of impeachment on the obstruction of Congress charge.
ROBERTS: “The question is on the second article of impeachment. Senators, how say you? Is the respondent, Donald John Trump, guilty or not guilty? The clerk will call the role.”
After the roll call had been taken on the second article of impeachment, Chief Justice Roberts made these remarks.
ROBERTS: “On this article of impeachment, 47 Senators have pronounced Donald John Trump, President of the United States, guilty as charged. 53 Senators have pronounced him not guilty as charged. Two-thirds of the Senators present not having pronounced him guilty, the Senate ajudges that respondent, Donald John Trump, President of the United States, is not guilty as charged in the second article of impeachment.
“The Presiding Officer directs judgment to be entered in accordance with the judgment of the Senate as follows: The Senate, having tried Donald John Trump, President of the United States, upon two articles of impeachment exhibited against him by the House of Representatives and two-thirds of the Senators present not having found him guilty of the charges contained therein, it is therefore ordered and adjudged that the said Donald John Trump be, and he is hereby, acquitted of the charges in said articles.”
The Senate voted 52-48 against conviction on the abuse of power charge and 53-47 against conviction on the obstruction of Congress charge.
Senator Mitt Romney of Utah voted to convict President Trump of abuse of power, the only Republican to support removing the president.
The trial arose when Democrats accused Trump of abusing his power by pressuring Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his family.
Trump affirms religious freedom, protection of unborn babies
President Trump delivered his third state of the union speech on Tuesday. His theme? “The Great American Comeback,” emphasizing economic and job growth and trade deals under his administration.
Trump said he is defending religious liberty and the constitutional right to pray in public schools.
TRUMP: “In America, we don’t punish prayer. We don’t tear down crosses. We don’t ban symbols of faith. We don’t muzzle preachers and pastors. In America, we celebrate faith. We cherish religion. We lift our voices in prayer, and we raise our sights to the glory of God!”
Trump also called for anti-abortion legislation.
TRUMP: “That is why I am also calling upon members of Congress here tonight to pass legislation finally banning the late-term abortion of babies.” (applause and cheers)
House Speaker Pelosi ripped up Trump’s speech on live national TV
To her shame, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi literally ripped up her copy of President Trump’s State of the Union speech on camera at the conclusion of his address to Congress, just seconds after the president said, “God bless America!”

And finally, Sarah Schecter, head of the lower school at The Oakridge School in Arlington, Texas, returned to school on Monday after donating her kidney to the father of three of her students.
Schecter heard that Nate Jones would face a life on dialysis if he did not get a kidney transplant. Schecter told The Dallas Morning News that she felt that God called her to help him.
Schecter said Psalm 118:24 stuck with her on the day of the surgery, “This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
