Oprah Winfrey Gives Speech at the Golden Globes on Standing Up to Sexual Assault

Oprah Winfrey accepted a lifetime achievement award Sunday night at the Golden Globes in Beverly Hills. She became the first black woman to receive the Cecil B. DeMille award.

Oprah addressed the need for women to speak truth to power in terms of the inappropriate behavior and sexual assault which they have endured at the hands of powerful men.

“So I want tonight to express gratitude to all the women who have endured years of abuse and assault because they, like my mother, had children to feed and bills to pay and dreams to pursue.

“For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. Their time is up. Their time is up.

“I’ve interviewed and portrayed people who’ve withstood some of the ugliest things life can throw at you, but the one quality all of them seem to share is an ability to maintain hope for a brighter morning, even during our darkest nights. So I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon!

“And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘Me too’ again.”

Oprah’s speech was so well received, many have suggested that she should run for president in 2020.

Republican Idaho Legislator Commits Suicide While Being Investigated for Sexual Abuse

Two related stories.

First, a 36-year-old Idaho Republican state lawmaker who was under investigation for possible sexual abuse, died in an apparent suicide, reports the Idaho Spokesman-Review.

Records obtained by The Associated Press also show that Brandon Hixon was previously the focus of a separate police investigation in 2014 after he was accused of inappropriate touching.

Hixon, who had been elected to the Idaho Legislature in 2012, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in his Caldwell home yesterday morning. Hixon is survived by his four children, aged 6 to 17.

Publisher Cancels Book Deal With Pastor Who Sexually Assaulted a Teenage Girl

And second, a canceled book deal is the latest repercussion for Memphis pastor Andy Savage as the ripples continue to spread from his admitted sexual encounter with a 17-year-old high school senior in Texas 20 years ago.

The victim, Jules Woodson, says, meanwhile, that she is “disgusted” by Savage’s public apology and doesn’t agree that the matter was “dealt with” at the time as Savage suggested. Woodson has come forward with her story in the vein of others in the #metoo movement.

Bethany House, a Christian publisher, announced Monday afternoon that it is canceling the scheduled July publication of Savage’s book, “The Ridiculously Good Marriage.”

Savage said, “I accepted full responsibility for my actions. I was and remain very remorseful for the incident and deeply regret the pain I caused her and her family, as well as the pain I caused the church and God’s Kingdom.”

The cancellation of Savage’s book came on the heels of The Austin Stone Community Church announcing it was placing on leave Pastor Larry Cotton who had been on staff with Savage at a Houston, Texas, suburban church in the late 1990’s when the sexual assault occurred.

Hopefully, Savage and Cotton echo the words of King David who cried out to God about his sin in Psalm 51:1-2. “Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your unfailing love; according to Your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.”

AWANA Founder Art Rorheim Passes Away

Art Rorheim, the co-founder of the Scripture-memory-based children’s ministry called AWANA, died last Friday, January 5, reports Christian Headlines.

Now reaching four million children in 100 countries, AWANA stands for “Approved workmen are not ashamed” which was inspired from 2 Timothy 2:25, which says, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth”

Rorheim’s heart’s desire was to evangelize children when they were young and equip them with the knowledge to become leaders in the faith.

Winter Storms in California Cause Flooding and at Least 13 Deaths

At least 13 people have died in weather-related incidents in Santa Barbara County, authorities said Tuesday, as the first major winter storm triggered flooding and mudflows that forced the closure of the 101 Freeway in the Thomas Fire burn area, reports ABC 13.

Powerful mudslides destroyed homes in the area as rescue crews rushed to search the rubble. The mud was reported to be 5 feet deep in places.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said, “It looked like a World War I battlefield. It was literally a carpet of mud and debris everywhere, with huge boulders, rocks, downed trees, power lines, wrecked cars, lots of obstacles.”

Tokyo Restaurant Owner Lets Customers Work for Their Meal

And finally, a restaurant owner in Tokyo offers free meals to customers who can’t afford to eat, but there’s a catch: you have to work for it. Customers have the option of paying for food or earning a free meal by working for 50 minutes serving food and cleaning dishes, reports SunnySkyz.com.

Sekai Kobayashi, 33, runs a 12-seat restaurant all by herself without any other staff.

So far, she says more than 500 people have opted to work for their meals.

Special Report: Chinese Government Cracks Down on Christmas Celebrations

Time now for a World View Special Report by Emily Swanson. I’m Adam McManus

Chinese Christians in the Xinjiang province were under heavy crackdown on Christmas Eve after they were turned in by their neighbors for having a Christmas Eve celebration. One was questioned for 10 hours.

The World View spoke to Gina Goh of International Christian Concern about the Chinese government cracking down all over China on Christmas as a “Western ideology”.

“I think it’s very noteworthy that this past Christmas, the Chinese government did kind of have this notice going out to schools saying that you should not celebrate Christmas because the Western ideology trying to infiltrate our country. It’s Western religion especially with the party schools, it’s banned.”

Goh said that most Christians in China were able to celebrate Christmas without incident, but there were a few recorded cases of opposition.

“Most Christians; they had Christmas without accident, but there have been several cases. Either they were banned from having it or it was interrupted by police because they say, ‘You are meeting at a place that is not sanctioned or it’s not a registered venue. You are not allowed to have it here.’

She said that in this particular case the pastor had been arrested before.

“This case here, Pastor Lou Yuanqi, he actually is a pastor for a house church, and he has been arrested before. If you are arrested before, obviously the government is going to keep a close watch. There will be people who they place around you to watch you.”

Pray that these brothers and sisters wouldn’t grow weary of worshipping God like Daniel did even when he had been forbidden to pray, that they would continue to celebrate Jesus without fear of what man can do to them.

This has been a World View Special Report. I’m Adam McManus.

Harvard Law Professor Says Trump Opponents Are Using Soviet Union Tactics

The left is borrowing tactics from the old Soviet Union in an attempt to bring down President Trump, contends Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, reports WorldNetDaily.com.

In an interview with “Fox & Friends,” Dershowitz said the charge by journalist Michael Wolff in his book, “Fire and Fury” that Trump is mentally unstable and should be removed from office is similar to what communist leaders during the Cold War did to political dissidents he represented.

The Washington Examiner reported, “There’s only one thing worse than trying to criminalize political differences, and that’s trying to psychiatrize them.

Former Sheriff Joe Arpaio Runs for Senate

Known formerly as America’s Toughest Sheriff, Republican Joe Arpaio, a close ally of President Trump, is running for Senate in Arizona, reports CNN.

The 85-year-old Arpaio could shake up the late August Republican primary in a critical open-seat race to replace retiring Republican Senator Jeff Flake.

Trump pardoned Arpaio last summer, sparing the former sheriff jail time after he was convicted of ignoring a federal court order in a racial-profiling case.

British Mother Angry at Doctors for Recommending That She Abort Her Daughter

A 25-year-old British mother named Kamelia Walters of South London criticized her doctors for encouraging her to abort her unborn daughter after tests indicated that the baby girl could have a disability, reports The Sun.

Contrary to the doctors’ claim, Baby Kyla-Shae Anderson was born healthy 18 months ago – free of any disabilities, and her mother is grateful that she is alive. Walters said she also feels angry because her daughter would not be alive today if she had taken her doctors’ advice.

Pastor Encourages Rape Victims to Abort Their Babies

Save The 1 has published two recent stories in which the pregnant rape victims’ clergy not only advised them that’s it’s acceptable to abort, but actually encouraged them to do so. One rape victim went through with the abortion, and the other did not.

In the story entitled, A Tale of Two Mothers Who Were Pregnant By Rape, one pastor sadly said, “Let me put your heart at ease. In the eyes of the church, any decision, prayerfully considered, is okay. In your case, I think you should have an abortion. You need to be able to move past this. You should have an abortion.”

The pastor went on to tell the author about her two daughters who had also faced unplanned pregnancies. One had chosen adoption, the other abortion, and both were equally good decisions. She dismissively added, “‘There’s a couple in the church who want to adopt, but, no, you shouldn’t talk to them. You need to have an abortion.’ I remember my heart telling me, ‘Isn’t there something in Psalms about this?’”

Indeed there is. Psalm 139:13 is true for every child, regardless of the circumstances of his or her conception. “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

Baby Girl Born After 25 Years as a Frozen Embryo

In late November, Emma Wren was born just in time for the Christmas season—and 25 years after her conception through the process of in vitro fertilization, reports World Magazine. She likely holds the record for the embryo longest-frozen before birth. Tina, 26, marvels at the process, noting she was a 1-year-old baby when physicians created her daughter in a lab dish.

At least 600,000 embryos sit frozen in storage facilities across the United States, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

Facebook Takes Down Warriors for Christ Page

On December 29th, Facebook censored Warriors for Christ, a West Virginia-based ministry that stands unapologetically opposed to all sinful behavior, including adultery, homosexuality and abortion. Zuckerberg’s army of minions claim that the ministry is guilty of “bullying and hate speech” because it dares to call sin sin.

Although the Facebook page was reinstated on January 2 after an online petition was launched calling for Facebook to republish the page, Facebook administrators again took the Warriors for Christ page down last Friday. So now, the ministry no longer has access to its main Facebook page that had over 225,000 followers.

GM Claims It Will Make a Profit in Electric Cars

By 2021, General Motors claims it will make money selling electric cars, reports Reuters.

That promise to turn a profit is a bold claim in a market segment that has been driven more by government policy than consumer demand.

2008 Book on Bombing of Germany Returns to Bestseller List After Publication of Anti-Trump Book with Similar Title

When it was released 10 years ago, Randall Hansen’s book performed as expected, racking up strong sales that gradually tapered off. But this week the Canadian professor’s 2008 book unexpectedly leapt back on to bestseller lists, reports The Guardian.

The reason lies in the book’s name – Fire and Fury: The Allied Bombing of Germany, 1942-1945 – just a subtitle away from the Michael Wolff’s explosive exposé of the Trump White House.

Hansen was in Washington on Friday when Wolff’s book was released and had joked with his colleagues about the book he had written long ago with the same title.

While Wolff used fire and fury to reference Trump’s threat of war against North Korea, Hansen’s book delves into what fire and fury looks like in practice, exploring the horrific consequences war holds for civilians.
