Christian Man Imprisoned for Helping Mother, Child Escape an Abusive Lesbian

The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to temporarily stop the three-year prison sentence of a Christian man for helping a child flee with her mother from a lesbian who was persecuting the family.

Philip Zodhiates (pronounced zoh-dee-AH’-tehs) started serving a three-year federal prison sentence last month after he was prosecuted by the Obama administration for driving Lisa Miller and her daughter Isabella to the Canadian border in 2009. The two were escaping the clutches of a lesbian woman who, according to court witnesses, was abusing the child.

According to Life Site News, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg rejected the request for a stay, but Justice Neil Gorsuch placed it on the calendar to be voted on in private conference on January 4.

Two other Mennonite pastors have served prison time for the aid they provided Lisa Miller and her daughter.

Zodhiates reports from jail that “[God] gave me a terrific cellmate who looks out for me, and three men to disciple. We’ve begun a prayer time every evening and will soon begin a Bible study.”

Hebrews 13 reminds us to “remember those who are in prison, as though bound with them.”

Partial Government Shutdown is Longest in U.S. History

The federal government shutdown is in its 25th day, now the longest in history exceeding the 21-day shutdown under the Clinton administration in 1995.

The expense of the shutdown may be quite substantial, according to some reports coming from both conservative and liberal think tanks. Congress has already approved back pay for federal employees who have not done any work for the last three weeks. The measure passed Congress last week by a vote of 411 to 7.

The Office of Management and Budget produced a report in 2013 indicating that President Obama’s government shutdown reduced the GDP growth by 0.2-0.6%, amounting to between $2 billion and $46 billion, reports American Action Forum.

Chinese Court Gives Death Penalty to Canadian for Drug Smuggling

A Chinese court has given the death penalty to a Canadian citizen who is charged with drug smuggling.

Robert Lloyd Schallenberg is accused of orchestrating the smuggling of almost 500 pounds of Methamphetamine from the Chinese port of Dailan to Australia, according to a CNN report.

Canadian President Justin Trudeau has said the ruling is of “extreme concern”.

Chinese Economy Experiencing Some Unusual Bumps

The Chinese economy is suffering, with a 4% drop-off on exports year over year, and a projected fall on GDP growth this year.

Also, in the last year, China went from “having no distressed corporate bonds to having more than any other emerging market”, reports Bloomberg.

Planned Parenthood President Admits Abortion Is “Core Mission”

Planned Parenthood’s new president has finally admitted that abortion is the “core mission” of the organization. In a tweet last week, Dr. Leana Wen wrote that  “First, our core mission is providing, protecting and expanding access to abortion.”

The latest Planned Parenthood annual report indicates the organization is still killing 321,000 babies surgically by abortion per year, in addition to taking the lives of 730,000 children chemically by Plan B abortions. That represents about a 5% decrease in abortion/Plan B business over the previous year.

The organization has performed 145 abortions for every one adoption referral.

Jesus said, “this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”

Judge Blocks Ability for Christian Companies to Opt Out of Abortifacients

U.S. District Judge Wendy Beetlestone in Philadelphia has blocked an attempt by the Trump administration to allow freedom of conscience for Christian companies and ministries who want to opt out of providing abortifacients to their employees in their insurance plans, reports the Associated Press.

The new rules allowing more liberty were supposed to have gone into effect yesterday.
