Elderly Christian convert couple fled after Muslim threat
On September 16th, 70-year-old Sula Mugudi and his 62-year-old wife, Aisha Mugudi, put their faith in Christ during a church’s weeklong evangelistic campaign of home visits in eastern Uganda.
Three days after converting from Islam, the couple attended a church all-night prayer vigil, returning home on September 20 to find that Muslim relatives had left a threatening message. It said, “Today, if we find you around, we shall destroy you with the house. You have become an embarrassment to our Muslim family by joining a wrong religion.”
The fearful couple fled immediately, reports Morning Star News. Mr. Mugudi said, “It was a very difficult moment for us – no place to stay, no clothing and beddings.” Thankfully, a pastor said the couple has been relocated as far away as possible to avoid attack by the Muslim relatives.
Please pray for the safety of Sula and Aisha Mugudi.
Trump endorses Jim Jordan for House Speaker
It was an historic moment on October 3rd when House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was voted out.
PRESIDING HOUSE OFFICER: “The yeas are 216. The nays are 210. The resolution is adopted. Without objection, the motion to reconsider is laid on the table. The Office of Speaker of the House of the United States House of Representatives is hereby declared vacant.”
Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, who led the charge to get rid of McCarthy, was joined by seven Republican colleagues and all the Democrats.
Last Friday, former president Donald Trump announced his endorsement of Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio to be the next speaker of the House, reports The Hill.
On Truth Social, he said, “He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”
Jordan is a close Trump ally and one of the leading GOP lawmakers investigating President Joe Biden. He would be one of, if not the, most conservative members to hold the speaker’s gavel in recent memory should he be elected.
The stakes are extremely high as Congress faces down a looming shutdown deadline in mid-November, reports CNN. The House is essentially paralyzed while it lacks a speaker.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana is also a candidate for House Speaker.
Air Force reservist sues over punishment for ‘political’ remarks
U.S. Air Force Reserve Jace Yarbrough is taking legal action against the Department of Defense after he was disciplined for remarks he made while in uniform at a private ceremony, reports The Christian Post.
In June 2021, Yarbrough gave a speech at a military retirement ceremony held at the Battleship Missouri Memorial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in which he spoke about his faith and his concern about politics in the military.
He referenced the “culture war” within the Armed Forces and said “men can’t birth babies” and that “boys should not be allowed in girls’ locker rooms.”
One witness noted that Yarbrough’s “personal/religious views seemed to be in conflict with the rights of the LHBT community.” Meanwhile, another stated that “his message had a religious tone to it.” Heaven forbid!
He went on to quote from Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s play, “Candle in the Wind,” who wrote, “The simple step of a courageous individual is not to take part in the lie. One word of truth outweighs the world.”
Ephesians 6 describes the importance of the Christian putting on the full armor of God. In verse 14, Paul writes, “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist.”
After a member of the U.S. Navy, who was present for the speech, filed a complaint against Yarbrough, the reservist receiving an admonishment letter reprimanding him for his remarks in August 2021.
Yarbrough is represented by the First Liberty Institute.
William Tyndale’s passion for God’s Word led to his martyrdom
And finally, last Friday, October 6th, was the anniversary of the martyrdom of William Tyndale in 1536.
The Torchlighters Curriculum explains that he was a man who topped King Henry VIII’s “Most Wanted” list in 1535 and was pursued across Europe by the king’s bounty hunters. What was his crime? Murder? Theft? No, William Tyndale’s so-called “crime” was translating the Bible into English for the common people.
Most parents could not read the Christmas story from the Bible to their children. Parents were not allowed to teach their kids the Lord’s Prayer or the Ten Commandments in English because it was against the law.
The church and government authorities thought that only educated people could understand the complexity of the Bible. That was one of their reasons for wanting to keep the Scripture only in Latin which only educated people could read.
But William Tyndale loved God’s Word and yearned to make it available to everyone. He persevered in his plan to translate the Bible from the original Hebrew and Greek into English, even when the plan angered important people.
He once told a church official, “If God spare my life, I will cause a boy that drives the plough to know more of the Scripture than you do.”
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”
After his English New Testament was printed in Germany in 1526, Tyndale smuggled copies into England by ship in bales of cotton.
The King of England opposed his work and the church, ironically enough, ordered the New Testament to be burned. After a year and a half of imprisonment, Tyndale was brought out for a public execution. His final prayer was “Lord! Open the King of England’s eyes.” While tied to the stake, he was strangled to death, and then his dead body was burned.
Tyndale’s prayer was answered a year after his death when King Henry VIII authorized the Scriptures to be translated and printed in English.
